Insights, trends, tools, and opportunities to build a better online business.

Hey friend,

Summer is just around the corner here in Toronto, and as the weather has started getting warmer, I've been diving into new DIY home projects again.

I can't stop.

In case you don't know or don't remember, I took some time off and shut down A Better Lemonade Stand back in 2021.

During that time, I bought a new house and spent a year renovating it from top to bottom before finally rebooting A Better Lemonade Stand with this new direction last year (my new love of nocode was heavily inspired by my renovations).

When I started renovating, I decided to also build a unified smart home.

As it turned out, this wouldn’t be a simple project.

The smart home industry was in its infancy, and I was an early adopter.

I spent the first two years battling software bugs and compatibility issues and essentially being a beta tester for smart home products with never-ending problems.

However, the smart home category has come a long way and is starting to mature in many ways, including product, software, communication, and protocol standards.

With the advancement of AI and the direction robotics is moving, I'm confident we will see an explosion of interest and capabilities in the smart home category over the next 12-24 months.

I have, for the most part, completed my smart home (ha!).

From the convenience of controlling my entire house with a single voice command to the peace of mind that comes with advanced security features, my smart home has become an integral part of my daily life.

This past weekend, I wrote a post to share my smart home journey.

As one of my closest friends, I invite you to tour my 100% Apple HomeKit-based smart home, featuring 100+ devices and sensors that work together with my home automations to make my life way too comfortable.

🚀 How to Create a Viral Content Business

Jennifer runs @vegantechnomad, an Instagram productivity account. She gained significant traction after a few of her productivity videos went viral on Instagram. Here’s how she does it:

  • Audience Engagement: Jennifer shares the importance of transparency and building in public to nurture audience trust. She mentions how she provides premium offerings while ensuring people can find value through her free resources too.

  • Experimentation and Strategy: Her growth is rooted from strategic experimentation, where she tests different hooks, topics, and formats across multiple platforms. She uses analytics to gauge what resonates and then repurposes successful content for other platforms like her newsletter and YouTube.

  • Thoughts: Jennifer is great to follow on Twitter, as she shares the behind-the-scenes of how she’s growing her content business and how much $$$ she’s making.

👥 Master Community-Building

This is a short but juicy highlight video from a recent members-only AMA session with Greg Isenberg and Andrew Wilkinson, talking about things like:

  • Future Business Ventures: Greg’s random approach to starting businesses, through personal passion rather than market trends or analysis.

  • Misconceptions about Starting a Community: Greg highlights the potential of communities beyond socializing, such as an asset for attracting opportunities and talent. Eg. Monica joined their Mastermind event as a community member and later became a full-time team member.

  • Thoughts: Work on building community engagement in your niche today, and invest time nurturing and building your community as a valuable asset for business growth and opportunities.

🖥️ Master Your Digital Product's Landing Page

In Jay Melone's latest guide, you find some key points to consider when creating a high-converting landing page for your digital product.

🤳 Essential Influencer Marketing Benchmarks 2024

Later (the social media app) analyzed over 45K posts and 2.9K campaigns to reveal the latest trends you need to know when planning your next influencer growth marketing campaign.

  • Platform Trends: Noteworthy shifts include declining average cost per activation due to tightened budgets and increased content creativity demands as audiences become more sophisticated.

  • Creator Trends: Nano and Micro-influencers are getting more popular as they give more cost-effective engagement, suggesting creating a more authentic connection with audiences.

  • Industry Trends: TikTok reigns for CPG campaigns, fashion brands shift to Pinterest, and food content thrives.

😥 Navigating Mental Health as an Entrepreneur

New research from the Founder Reports audience highlights that a significant majority of entrepreneurs face mental health challenges, with anxiety and stress at the forefront.

  • Prevalence of Issues: Over 87% of entrepreneurs experience mental health issues, showcasing the need for targeted support.

  • Lack of Awareness: Few entrepreneurs know the mental health resources available, signaling a gap in support structures.

  • Thoughts: These stats prove there is much opportunity to create products/services supporting entrepreneurs' mental health. On a side note, creating your own reports like this is also a great way to help you generate targeted sponsorship opportunities if you have an audience.

🧰 Apps & Tools

🦠 MicroAssets: MicroAssets is a unique marketplace designed to connect buyers with bootstrapped founders, facilitating the sale of promising projects priced under $100k.

🎨 Branding 5: This tool is great for helping zero in on your brand positioning. Another thing to note is that this is a GPT with a wrapper. This gives you a great example of how you could start thinking about solving narrow issues like this with a simple AI app.

💫 Adalo: Adalo launches 150+ pre-built, responsive Sections to streamline your design process. With its drag-and-drop builder, you can easily design an app that reflects your brand.

🚀 LaunchPod: Turn your ideas into compelling audio content, including podcasts and audiobooks. It simplifies the entire process, from idea generation to voice cloning and content scheduling.

⬆️ TrueNorth: This growth marketing platform gives you that all-in-one solution we all want to help centralize and align your marketing efforts with your objectives.

🦄 Unicorn Platform: A user-friendly website builder for startups, mobile apps, and SaaS companies. It gives you customizable templates and tools to quickly create and launch a professional website.

🤷‍♂️ Hunch: Create, customize, and share workflows connecting various AI models like OpenAI and Anthropic. Through its visual interface, you can build tools for tasks like product naming, marketing content, and image generation, I find it pretty simple to use.

🤪 GPT-4 Is the Dumbest Model You Will Use

You might find GPT-4 impressive now, but it's just the beginning. Sam Altman hints that far more advanced and capable AI models are coming soon.

  • Real-World Assistance: Sam says that the future AI models will manage real-world tasks continuously, offering help without the need for bursts of prompts.

  • Hardware Independence: Altman suggests that despite the push for dedicated AI devices, significant advancements could be achieved through cloud-based solutions, potentially eliminating the need for new hardware.

  • Thoughts: This shift seems to be that AI is becoming more of a behind-the-scenes super colleague in our daily lives quicker than we think, rather than just shooting a bunch of specific tasks for your solopreneurship.

📲 Anthropic Launches 2 Important Claude Updates

Anthropic has just launched a mobile app for iOS, with plans for an Android version soon. A new team plan has also been introduced to facilitate shared access to Claude AI models.

  • Mobile Accessibility: The new Claude mobile app allows users to interact with Claude as a chatbot and perform image analysis, enhancing usability beyond the traditional web access points.

  • Team Collaboration: The newly unveiled Team plan supports a minimum of five users, costing $30 per seat per month, and offers increased chat capabilities and administrative controls compared to individual subscriptions.

  • Thoughts: Anthropic's entry into the mobile app market follows behind established apps from competitors like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini. I've personally switched to mostly using Claude Opus. But still, switch back and forth to GPT4.

Note: I have been using Claude Opus through Poe (Claude isn’t available in Canada yet), and have found it to be better than ChatGPT 4, for most of my use cases.

👁️ Sam Altman's Shares His Vision of AI's Future

In a recent talk at Stanford University, Sam Altman shares his thoughts into:

  • AI Evolution: Altman examines ChatGPT’s explosive growth and discusses the critical need for ethical frameworks and responsible implementation.

  • Technological Foundations: He shares the importance of AI infrastructure in supporting future advancements, including significant computational requirements.

  • Thoughts: Don't shy away from bold ideas that seem unconventional or ahead of their time. Altman reminds us that non-consensus concepts can lead to breakthroughs, especially when they align with trends like AI.
